If you've read previous blog posts by yours truly, then you're probably aware I have taken a fancy to Australia's Rove McManus' show Rove. It's a live variety celebrity talk show similar to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brian, or the Late show with David Letterman.
In my previous post, I speculated the far off possibility that Rove might actually make a career in America; I think it's time to wager some money.
RoveFeed and RoveOnline have been doing a great job of being your one stop source for all things Rove in the blogosphere (keep it up guys!) and each has reported that Rove will be broadcasting two shows from the USA, one week from Times Square NYC and the following from Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. Not too long ago, they linked to the Variety Article reporting that McManus recently signed with United Talent Agency to represent him in the US. Now, it looks like Rove will make his second appearance, in less than four months, on Leno while he's in LA.
As we know, Leno will retire in 2009 with O'Brian taking his chair. Letterman has been rumored to be nearing retirement also, so it would seem now is as good a time as any for Rove to make his transition into the late night chat show circuit. What I think is most telling however is that second Leno appearance Rove is reportedly going to make. Rove isn't news worthy in America, at least not yet, and while Leno does occasionally have obscure guests, it's rare for them to invest air apace twice in such a short time frame - unless NBC is looking to gain McManus some familiarity with the American audience and I'm betting that's exactly what they're looking to do.
To me, it looks like strategy, and it makes a good case for predicting Rove-Hollywood 2009.
